Driveway Paving Quote Checklist — Miami–South Florida
What it should state. What's commonly not stated. What to ask before you sign.
You're about to sign an asphalt driveway paving quote in the Miami–South Florida area. This page lists what a complete one states, the lines that are commonly not stated, and the questions worth asking before your name goes on it.
This is a reading checklist, not advice. Spend Defense doesn't tell you whether to sign — we make sure you've actually seen what's on the page, and what isn't.
What a complete driveway paving quote states
Area and thickness — the square footage being paved and the compacted asphalt thickness in inches, stated as numbers.
Base preparation — grading, the base material, its depth, and compaction described, not just "prep included."
Removal and haul-off — whether tearing out and disposing of the old driveway is in the total.
New asphalt or overlay — whether this is a full replacement or a layer over the existing surface, named plainly.
Edges, drainage, and slope — how the edges are finished and which way water is meant to run off.
Sealcoating — whether a sealcoat is included, and if so, when it is applied.
Total price and payment schedule — the full amount, the deposit, and what triggers the balance.
Contractor's license number — for licensed work, the contractor license number printed on the document.
What's commonly not stated
- What's under the asphalt — a quote that says "pave" but nothing about base depth or compaction leaves the longest-lived part of the job unstated.
- Cure time — how long before you can drive or park on it, and when the first sealcoat should go on, is rarely written down.
- What cracking and settling are covered — whether the warranty says anything about cracks, low spots, or edge crumbling — and what "repair" would mean — is usually absent.
- Overlay vs. replacement — a lower number may describe an overlay on the old surface; the quote may not say so in plain words.
- Permit and inspection — whether they're needed for your project and who's handling them.
- Permit and license details for Miami–South Florida-area driveway paving — whether this job needs a permit depends on the scope and on the city or county it's in, so the quote should say whether one is needed, who pulls it, and whether it's in the total. Licensing for this work is set by Florida and local agencies; ask for the license information on the document and look it up yourself with the issuing agency.
None of these gaps decide anything by themselves. They're the lines to ask about before you sign, not after.

FAQ
How much should an asphalt driveway cost in the Miami–South Florida area?
We don't price other people's work — a paved driveway's cost depends on size, thickness, base work, removal of the old surface, and access for the equipment. What matters on your quote is whether those things are stated at all. A clear quote and a vague quote can carry the same number and mean very different jobs.
What if something on this checklist is missing from my driveway paving quote?
Ask for it in writing before you sign. Once the asphalt is down, unstated terms are hard to revisit. A missing line is a question, not a verdict; ask while the answer is still free.
Can Spend Defense read my actual driveway paving quote?
Yes — that's the Quick Check. Most paving quotes fit easily in the $4.99 Quick Check (up to 10 pages). Send the document and you'll get back what it says, what's not stated, and what to ask before the paving date gets set.
