Electrical Quote Checklist — Las Vegas
What it should state. What's commonly not stated. What to ask before you sign.
You're about to sign an electrical work quote — a panel upgrade, new circuits, or rewiring in the Las Vegas area. This page lists what a complete one states, the lines that are commonly not stated, and the questions worth asking before your name goes on it.
This is a reading checklist, not advice. Spend Defense doesn't tell you whether to sign — we make sure you've actually seen what's on the page, and what isn't.
What a complete electrical quote states
Scope of work — each circuit, outlet, fixture, or panel being installed or replaced, listed.
Panel amperage — the service size before and after (for example, 100A to 200A), named in the quote.
The total price — the full amount for the listed scope, not an hourly estimate with no ceiling.
Who supplies devices — whether fixtures, switches, and outlets come from the electrician or from you.
Permit and inspection — who pulls the permit and whether the final inspection is in the price.
Utility coordination — who schedules the utility disconnect/reconnect for service changes, and any utility fees.
Wall repair — whether openings cut for wiring are patched, or left for someone else.
Labor warranty — how long the work is covered, stated as a length of time.
What's commonly not stated
- Exclusions for existing wiring — a quote may cover only new work; what happens if old wiring fails inspection is often unstated.
- Utility fees and timing — service upgrades depend on the utility's schedule and charges, which the quote may not mention.
- Drywall and paint after the job — patching is often "by others" without saying so plainly.
- Code-compliance language — whether the work is stated to meet current code and pass inspection is sometimes absent.
- Permit and license details for Las Vegas-area electrical work — whether this job needs a permit depends on the scope and on the city or county it's in, so the quote should say whether one is needed, who pulls it, and whether it's in the total. Licensing for this work is set by Nevada and local agencies; ask for the license information on the document and look it up yourself with the issuing agency.
None of these gaps decide anything by themselves. They're the lines to ask about before you sign, not after.
Questions to ask before you sign
- “Ask your Las Vegas electrician: what amperage is the panel now, and what will it be after?”
- “Is the permit and final inspection in this total?”
- “Are you supplying the fixtures and devices, or am I?”
- “If the existing wiring needs work to pass inspection, how is that priced?”
- “Who coordinates with the utility, and are their fees included?”

FAQ
How much does electrical work usually cost in the Las Vegas area?
We don't price other people's work — cost depends on the scope, the age of the house, and whether the utility service changes. What you can check is whether your quote states its own total, the panel size, and who handles the permit. If it doesn't, that's a question to ask before signing.
What if something on this checklist is missing from my electrical quote?
Ask for it in writing before you sign. A missing permit line or wiring exclusion isn't a verdict on the electrician; it's an unknown in a contract you're about to be bound by. Getting it stated on the page costs nothing and settles it before work starts.
Can Spend Defense read my actual electrical quote?
Yes — that's the Quick Check. Send the document and you'll get back what it says, what's not stated, and what to ask, for $4.99 (up to 10 pages). Most electrical quotes are short enough to fit easily within that limit.
