Tree Service Quote Checklist — Fort Worth

What it should state. What's commonly not stated. What to ask before you sign.

You're about to sign a tree service quote — removal, trimming, or stump grinding in the Fort Worth area. This page lists what a complete one states, the lines that are commonly not stated, and the questions worth asking before your name goes on it.

This is a reading checklist, not advice. Spend Defense doesn't tell you whether to sign — we make sure you've actually seen what's on the page, and what isn't.

What a complete tree removal quote states

  • Trees identified — each tree named by species and location.

  • Scope — full removal, partial removal, or trimming — stated per tree.

  • Stump grinding — included, or a separate line with its own price.

  • Wood and debris — hauled away, chipped on site, or left for you — stated.

  • Equipment — whether a crane or special rigging is needed, and its cost.

  • Insurance — a certificate of insurance that covers tree work specifically.

  • Permits — whether a permit is needed for the tree, and who obtains it.

  • Total price and payment — the full amount, and when payment is due.

What's commonly not stated

  • Stump grinding — the most common gap — a removal quote can stop at ground level.
  • Plan changes mid-job — if a crane or extra crew becomes necessary, who pays is often unstated.
  • Property damage — responsibility for damage to lawn, fences, or driveways from equipment is rarely written down.
  • Protected trees — some cities protect certain trees; whether a permit is needed may not be mentioned.
  • Tree rules in the Fort Worth area — whether a permit is needed for a tree depends on the city or county and sometimes on the tree itself. The quote should say whether a permit is needed and who obtains it, rather than leaving it unmentioned.

None of these gaps decide anything by themselves. They're the lines to ask about before you sign, not after.

Questions to ask before you sign

  1. “Ask your Fort Worth tree service: is stump grinding included, and how deep?”
  2. “Will the wood and debris be hauled away?”
  3. “If a crane or extra rigging becomes necessary, how is that priced?”
  4. “Can I see a certificate of insurance that covers tree work?”
  5. “Does this tree need a permit, and who gets it?”

FAQ

How much does tree removal usually cost in the Fort Worth area?

We don't price other people's work — cost depends on the tree's size, location, access, and whether a crane is needed. What you can check is whether your quote states each tree, stump grinding, debris handling, and its own total. If it doesn't, that's a question to ask before signing.

What if something on this checklist is missing from my tree removal quote?

Ask for it in writing before you sign. A missing stump line or insurance certificate isn't a verdict on the company; it's an unknown in a job with heavy equipment in your yard. Getting it stated costs nothing and settles it before the first cut.

Can Spend Defense read my actual tree removal quote?

Yes — that's the Quick Check. Send the document and you'll get back what it says, what's not stated, and what to ask, for $4.99 (up to 10 pages). Tree removal quotes are usually a single page, well within that limit.
