Garage Door Replacement Quote Checklist

What it should state. What's commonly not stated. What to ask before you sign.

You're about to sign a garage door replacement quote. This page lists what a complete one states, the lines that are commonly not stated, and the questions worth asking before your name goes on it.

This is a reading checklist, not advice. Spend Defense doesn't tell you whether to sign — we make sure you've actually seen what's on the page, and what isn't.

What a complete garage door quote states

  • Door specification — size, material, insulation (R-value), style, and model.

  • Opener — included new, reused, or quoted separately — with model if new.

  • Tracks, springs, and hardware — new or reused, stated per item.

  • Removal and disposal — whether the old door is hauled away in the price.

  • Total price and payment — the full amount, the deposit, and when the balance is due.

  • Lead time — how long until the door arrives and is installed.

  • Warranty split — door, parts, and labor — each with a length.

What's commonly not stated

  • Reused parts — old springs or tracks may be kept without saying so.
  • Opener compatibility — whether your current opener works with the new door is often unstated.
  • Framing or trim repair — damaged jambs or trim found at removal may be priced later.
  • Labor warranty length — a long door warranty can sit beside a short or missing labor warranty.

None of these gaps decide anything by themselves. They're the lines to ask about before you sign, not after.

Questions to ask before you sign

  1. “What size, material, and R-value is this door?”
  2. “Is the opener included, reused, or separate?”
  3. “Are the tracks and springs new or reused?”
  4. “Is removal of the old door included?”
  5. “What are the door, parts, and labor warranties — and how long is each?”

FAQ

How much does a new garage door usually cost?

We don't price other people's work — cost depends on the door's size, material, insulation, and whether the opener and hardware are replaced. What you can check is whether your quote names the door, states what's new versus reused, and gives its own total. If it doesn't, ask before signing.

What if something on this checklist is missing from my garage door quote?

Ask for it in writing before you sign. A missing hardware line or labor warranty isn't a verdict on the installer; it's an unknown in a contract you're about to be bound by. Getting it stated on the page costs nothing and settles it before the order is placed.

Can Spend Defense read my actual garage door quote?

Yes — that's the Quick Check. Send the document and you'll get back what it says, what's not stated, and what to ask, for $4.99 (up to 10 pages). Garage door quotes are usually a page or two, comfortably within that limit.
